Pixloration

The Pixloration project ran for a week at Cube Media in York. I worked on it with another filmmaker to facilitate 9 young people between the ages of 15 and 24 creating three one-minute films.

The films were a dark comedy about a skateboard, a film about bullying, and one about Paranoia. They used a technique of mixing live action with animation done with people (Pixelation or Pixloration as we termed it) to create a vibrant effect.

The participants developed, filmed, edited and mastered the films with our supervision, and we had a final showing of them on the Friday afternoon to the group and staff from Cube media. As well as being given to each participant on DVD, the films were shown at LYTnet broadcasts across Europe and at a short film night at the City Screen cinema in York.

Feedback from the participants, artists and co-ordinator was overwhelmingly positive, with all participants expressing a desire to do more similar projects, and one went on to start a college course in film and media as a result of this project.
