Beat the Bullies

This project was run by York City Council, and involved three young bands writing and recording songs about bullying. From these, three films were made using a song as the starting point. I worked with another filmmaker with a group of 14-16 year olds for a week to create a film based around school and domestic bullying. We discussed bullying and experiences of it with them first, then developed ideas before beginning filming. The aim was to let them make the film they wanted, and to support the group in this. Several members of the group had never done anything like this before, while others had their own cameras and made their own films. It had a good dynamic and everyone involved was really pleased with the final film.

I also worked with a group of 11-16 year olds to create a series of mobile phone animations based around bullying. I worked with another animator and sound designer, and we followed a similar process to the film above. The young people produced a series of brilliant animations between 10 seconds and 1 minute, covering a variety of stories and issues around bullying.

All three films were put together on a final DVD which I authored, along with the original songs and educational resources for use in schools and youth groups. If you would like a copy, please email me on the address below.
