Identity Project

This was a three month project in which I was one of 3 artists working with a group of ten 16-24 year olds to explore the idea of identity. It was a very open brief, and the subject became one which was very difficult to pin down - from personal identity to national, from mobile phone ringtones to passport numbers. Working with the group, we brainstormed and discussed it, and eventually decided to create an experimental sequence covering different aspects of identity. The group were a mix of young people from different backgrounds and with different aspirations. This added to the breadth of what we covered under the subject 'identity'.

Part of the project involved taking three of the group to a media camp in Poland, where they met and worked alondside young people from eight other countries. While there the rest of the group in England organised a phone call to ask people from five of the countries about identity - we recorded it in both countries and cut a film together of the conversation. It's too long to host here but worked really well and if you're interested I can send you a DVD.
