| National Centre for Early Music (NCEM) ‘Hopscotch’ 16 min, 2007/08 (Filmmaker, editor) This film captures a project run by the NCEM to encourage singing in school playgrounds. It shows the joy and excitement of the young people, and the enthusiasm of the teachers and song leaders for this initiative. It was filmed in two schools, and also at an event in the splendour of the NCEM in its 12th Century premises.

Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council I was commissioned by QA Research to make a short evaluation film to illustrate findings from their evaluation of 'Work Related Learning' projects run by Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council. For this, I filmed at three different schools, interviewing students about the courses they were on, and also while they did practical elements of the courses. |
QA Research For this market research company, I edited footage supplied to me into a nine minute film to be shown at a conference describing work carried out by them on behalf of Wakefield Council. The client supplied a detailed storyline to follow and had identified clearly which pieces of film they wanted to use. It has a documentary feel to it and is intended to get information across quickly and simply. |
National Centre for Early Music The NCEM asked me to film a workshop run by jazz trombonist Dennis Rollins as part of an AimHigher project. I interviewed Dennis and two students helping him, as well as the young people on the project. The film follows them as they learn a jazz groove and then perform an extended piece with improvisation and solo playing.

Wellcome Trust: Biomation Biomation is a pioneering science and arts project funded by the Wellcome Trust and run through York NHS and City of York Council. This film was made by a group of young people aged 11 – 14, four of whom have Diabetes, and four of their friends who do not, to explore the condition. They came up with the idea, then scripted it, created characters, animated and recorded audio for the film. It covers the areas of Blood sugar tests, Insulin injections and Hypos, and will be used to inform newly diagnosed young people by the hospital clinicians. |
Wellcome Trust: Biomation Biomation is a pioneering science and arts project funded by the Wellcome Trust and run through York NHS and City of York Council. The Asperger’s Syndrome (AS) project uses animation and audio to enable young people with AS to explain what it is and express how they feel about it. They give very personal insights which could only be achieved through using these mediums and techniques. |
Anim8ed, NMM project Anim8ed is a project which takes animation into schools on behalf of the National Media Museum in Bradford. I spent a week working at St Barnabas primary school in York, working with year 1 and 2 pupils to create an animation about a journey on a train. There was a visit to the National Rail Museum in York where they learnt about rail travel, and also filmed on one of the carriages. The pupils created and animated some fantastic artwork illustrating their journeys to the seaside and London. |
Lime Trees NHS This short animated film was made at Lime Trees NHS in York. Working with artist Dan Axon, we helped a group of young people with anorexia to create a script to explain about the condition and their experiences, and then make animations to illustrate it. We had to learn about the condition before starting the project, and work carefully to gain the trust of the young people in order for them to feel comfortable talking with us about their experiences. The film is very honest and will be used to show to newly diagnosed patients and their parents to help them understand how they can start to get better. |

National Centre for Early Music I put together 6 short (1 - 4 min) Vodcasts for the NCEM to be used as promotional videos for a tour they promoted. The films are short interviews with musicians explaining their role and the overall aim of the Mantra project - to create a fusion of Hindustani and Early Music and to explore this in workshops with young people. |
University of Oslo I filmed, edited and authored a training DVD and CD resource detailing how to carry out the Comet Assay procedure for the Department of Nutrition at the University of Oslo. It was shot in Norway, carefully covering the eight different stages in a way that is easy to follow for training purposes. I authored a DVD with supporting materials on a CD. |
Brackenhill Design I was asked to film and edit testimonial videos to be displayed on the website for the marketing, design and communication agency The Brackenhill Group. I filmed three of their clients, then edited the footage down to short 'bitesize' videos which are featured on the website.
|
BBC Radio 2 / niCemUm I filmed a series of short idents for comedy writers niCemUm for their BBC Radio 2 series 'On The Blog'. The theme for the idents was 'Meet the writers', with Kris and Dave from niCemUm improvising short sketches spoofing their writers lifestyle. 'On The Blog' has been commissioned for a third series later this year.
