| Lollipop film: 12 weeks, 2 wheels, 1 aim... | |
| |
This was a year long project to create a 27 minute film and a short animation for a York-based deaf children's charity, Lollipop. The film was screened as part of Deaf Awareness week in May 2008, and distributed to local schools and organisations. |
I worked closely with the charity to script and produce the film to make sure all relevant issues were covered. I filmed a group of 8 teenagers over 12 weeks as they completed a motorbike training scheme, interviewing them as we went as well as catching the process of them learning and gaining confidence. I had to revise my shooting style to make the final film more accessible (i.e. keeping faces clearly in shot to allow lip-reading) and also had to make sure my communication with the group was clear. |

The film uses three main presenters who take the viewer through the different aspects of what it is like to be deaf, and also show the viewer about the different types of deafness, some of the myths surrounding it, and offer some help on how best to communicate with them. |
| I created a signed version (using a BBC in-vision interpreter), a subtitled version and one with both. It is widescreen but 4:3 safe. I also authored the DVD for it. | |
